CONTOURS
Contours explores the parallels between the natural landscape and the human body, where lines, wrinkles and markings become a record of life’s journey.
Originally developed from the Horizons collection, the work begins with a photographic self-portrait, gradually transformed through digital abstraction into topographical patterns that follow the natural contours of the face and body.
Drawing inspiration from ancient cultures and traditions of body marking, the collection explores how lines and patterns can express identity, belonging, ritual and personal history.
Original black-and-white photographic self-portrait, capturing the natural lines, wrinkles and contours of the face as the starting point for the Contours collection.
The original self-portrait overlaid with topographical contour lines, following the natural features and wrinkles of the face to explore the parallels between human experience and the landscape.
The topographical contours develop into bold black-and-white bands, transforming the self-portrait into an abstract study of facial markings inspired by ancient traditions of body art and identity.
Bold black and white markings trace facial features and wrinkles, reflecting the passage of time, lived experience and ancient traditions of body marking.
